Océane

Océane (Maya Cherie Océane Malamba Lopez) is a Sophomore at New York University where she studies Recorded Music at the Clive Davis Institute. Océane’s original pieces have been featured by the Goodman Theatre, the Chicago Humanities Festival, and the Lyric Opera Chicago. Her creative work experiments with styles across genres. Learning about and listening to artists such as Nina Simone, inspires her to reflect the times and experiences that surround her in the world. Common themes that can be found in her work involve the questioning of aspects of things around her, as well as processing the complexity of her experiences.

About “You See Me”: "Can you ever truly see or know someone? "You See Me" relates to the idea "flux" by portraying the ways in which a person can be seen over the passage of time. We all fit into the story of history, and with this comes the ups and downs that come with life. Although it may be impossible to ever truly see a person, there is a beauty in appreciating darkness and light within each of us" - Océane
